You Don’t Have to Carry Your Laser Business Alone

There’s something about running a laser business that nobody really warns you about. Sure, people talk about the thrill of your first sale, the joy of creating products you love, or the freedom of working for yourself. And all of that is true.

But what most of us don’t talk about enough is how heavy it can feel sometimes.

Not heavy in the sense that you don’t love it, because you do. But heavy in the way that you’re suddenly wearing every hat: designer, marketer, customer service rep, social media manager, packaging department, accountant, and production team. Some days, it feels like you’re switching hats so fast you forget which one you’re wearing.

If you’ve ever thought:

  • “I don’t know if I’m pricing this right.”

  • “What if my next launch doesn’t sell?”

  • “Why does everyone else seem so much more put-together than me?”

  • “How much longer can I keep up this pace?”

…then I want you to know you’re not the only one.

The Quiet Costs of Doing Business Alone

When we start our businesses, we usually think: I’ll figure it out as I go. And honestly? That’s how most of us begin, late nights on YouTube, trial and error with materials, copying and pasting Etsy descriptions until they sound halfway decent.

But after a while, doing everything on your own can start to feel like:

  • Decision fatigue. You’ve spent an hour going back and forth on whether to raise your price by $2, and you still feel unsure.

  • Analysis paralysis. You’re scrolling Etsy or Instagram, comparing your shop to everyone else’s, and suddenly you’re doubting if your designs are even good enough.

  • Creative burnout. Instead of sketching new ideas, you’re too busy answering emails, scheduling posts, and worrying about shipping deadlines.

  • Isolation. Your family and friends love you, but they don’t totally understand why you’re obsessing over kerf settings or why one bad review can ruin your week.

None of these things mean you’re failing. They just mean you’re carrying a lot.

Makers Who Kept Going (and What We Can Learn)

Here’s the thing: when you look at the businesses that keep growing, even after the slow months, the bad reviews, the supply delays, the secret usually isn’t that they’re smarter, richer, or more talented.

It’s that they found ways to not carry it all alone.

✨ I know a maker who almost shut down after a summer of disappointing sales. Instead of quitting, she started asking around, testing new products, and talking to other shop owners. What she learned? Her pricing wasn’t the issue, her photos were. With a few changes, her fall season was her best yet.

✨ Another maker I know felt “stuck” for months, convinced she had tapped out her market. A simple conversation opened her eyes to wholesale, and suddenly she had a new revenue stream she never even considered.

✨ And one more? He admitted he was exhausted, running his laser until midnight every night. After sharing that, he realized other makers were outsourcing simple tasks (like sanding or packing) to free up time. He tried it and finally had evenings with his family again.

What these stories show isn’t that you must have a group of friends to succeed. It’s that having fresh perspective, whether it’s through a chat, a resource, or a shared experience, makes the road less overwhelming.

You Don’t Have to Do It the Hard Way

Here’s a little reminder I wish I had been told earlier: you don’t earn extra points for figuring everything out on your own.

  • You don’t have to keep guessing on pricing when there are proven strategies out there that can help you price with confidence instead of just hoping you’re “close enough.”

  • Slower seasons don’t have to shake your confidence. Every business has natural ebbs and flows. Hearing how others plan ahead, diversify their income, or ride those waves can give you ideas (and peace of mind) that you don’t have to invent from scratch.

  • Even systems can be simpler. From batching social posts to prepping packaging ahead of time, other makers have found shortcuts that might save you hours, and you’re allowed to borrow them.

Your business is yours, and you’ll always be the one making the decisions. But you don’t have to reinvent the wheel every step of the way. There’s a lot of relief in realizing you’re allowed to take shortcuts, not by cutting corners, but by learning from people who have walked the same path.

Support Is Closer Than You Think

Running a laser business can feel heavy sometimes, but you don’t have to carry every piece of it on your own.

There are resources, stories, and communities out there that are created by makers, for makers and remind you you’re not the only one figuring things out. Spaces where you can get perspective when you’re stuck, encouragement when you’re tired, and ideas that spark fresh energy in your business.

One of those spaces is Bonnie’s Spark & Scale Society. It’s not about having all the answers handed to you. It’s about having a place to land when you need a boost, a sounding board, or a reminder that what you’re building matters.

Because here’s the truth: the businesses that grow aren’t the ones that never stumble. They’re the ones that keep showing up, even when it’s messy. And sometimes, showing up feels easier when you know there are people in your corner.

So if you’ve been feeling the weight of running your business all on your own, let this be your reminder: you’re not behind, you’re not failing, and you don’t have to do it the hard way.

At the end of the day, your laser business doesn’t need to be a lonely road, keep creating, keep learning, and remember that there are always people cheering you on, even if you can’t see them yet.
